ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda) says it will use two of the three Tokyo Haneda daytime slots it was awarded by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLITT) last month to open up new services to New York JFK and Chicago O'Hare this coming winter.

"With services already operating from Los Angeles International, Honolulu, and Vancouver International to Haneda Airport, this will increase the total number of flights to the central airport from North American cities, to five," it said.

Last month, the MLITT awarded ANA three daytime and one nighttime Haneda slots while JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda) was awarded only two daytime slots.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has decided to award Hawaiian Airlines (HA, Honolulu) the country's sole Haneda night-time slot. Hawaiian was the sole applicant to apply for the slot-pairing and as such, the DOT has given it until January 29, 2017 to implement its proposed year-round service to Haneda from Honolulu (4x weekly) and Kona (3x weekly).

As previously reported, the US was awarded five daytime Haneda slots and a single night-time slot following talks with the MLITT in Japan in February this year.

Since then, the DOT has announced that Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth), United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare), and Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) may all shift their current night-time Haneda flights, to daytime effective this winter season. However, despite resistance from the carriers, the DOT has instructed them all to reapply for their individual route authorities for the Summer 2017 season.
