GI Aviation (Abu Dhabi Bateen) has formally commenced operations just over six weeks after it secured its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in December 2016.

Marios Belidis, the business charter specialist's general manager, said in a statement to the Gulf News that initial flights from its Abu Dhabi Bateen hub would focus on destinations in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region.

“We are limited to the GCC region, but we could do Tehran," he said. "We are looking to start [flying to] Tehran once we make sure that all the US sanctions are lifted and it’s legally safe for us to fly there."

He added that while GI Aviation will offer a niche product, it will do so at affordable prices, especially given the weak state of the business aviation market at present.

Operations are on-board Pilatus Aircraft PC-12 turboprops of which GI Aviation is the type's United Arab Emirates' (UAE) launch operator.
