Inter Island Airways Fiji (Suva) plans to enter the domestic Fijian market in November this year could be delayed once more following a report that the Fijian Civil Aviation Authority (CAAFI) has yet to issue the start-up an Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

Fiji's Air Transport Licensing Board (ATLB) chairman, Ernest Dutta, told the local press that the Inter Island Airways (Pago Pago) subsidiary's reapplication for a provisional operator's licence has been put on hold until the it has secured the requisite certification.

The original licence expired in November last year.

Inter Island Airways Fiji had planned to launch flights in December 2013 before revising that date to March and eventually November, 2014.

According to its original launch plans, it intends to operate four Do228s and one Do328-100 on island-hopper services connecting both Nadi and Suva with Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, Kadavu Island and Rotuma Island.

Thereafter, pending authorization from the ATLB, expansion will include Tuvalu, Wallis & Futuna, Samoa, American Samoa, Niue and Tonga using both CRJ200 and CRJ700 jets.
