Air One News Update

Air One (AP, Rome Fiumicino) has reportedly resumed takeover talks to Alitalia (AZ/Rome Fiumicino). It has terminated its Bologna Marconi-Trapani, Milan Linate-Reggio di Calabria and Turin-Barcelona routes. Air One has entered into a codeshare agreement with Air Malta (KM/Malta) on most routes between Italy and Malta and Air Malta domestic services in Italy. It has also signed a codeshare agreement for Air Baltic (BT/Riga) routes from Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino to Riga and Vilnius.

Air Malta (KM, Malta) will wet-lease two of its A320-200s to Etihad Airways (EY/Abu Dhabi) and operate regional services on behalf of the UAE carrier out of Abu Dhabi. Air Malta partner Lat Charter (6Y/Riga) will also operate an ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) A320-200 on behalf of Etihad. Air Malta will launch twice weekly A319-100/B737-300 service from Malta to Bologna Marconi on December 17.

Lufthansa Cargo News Update

Lufthansa Cargo (LH, Frankfurt Int'l) and Deutsche Post subsidiary DHL Express have announced plans to launch a joint cargo carrier in 2009. Both partners will own 50% of the new Leipzig/Halle based carrier that is scheduled to take delivery of 11 B777-200LRF freighters between 2009 and 2011. The new joint carrier will mainly concentrate on routes to Asia and the US and operate on behalf of both partners.
