Astraeus (5W, London Gatwick) will launch twice weekly B757-200 service from London Gatwick to Monrovia Roberts on January 15. Icelandic investment company Fons Eignarhaldsfelag has acquired a 51% stake in Astraeus directly instead of the original plan to acquire the stake via FlyMe (SH/Gothenburg Landvetter).

LTU International Airways (LT, Düsseldorf Int'l) has wet-leased a BAe 146-300 from WDL Aviation (WDL/Cologne/Bonn) instead of a Fokker 100 from Germania (ST/Berlin Tegel) as originally planned. It will mainly use the aircraft for its Dusseldorf-Lisbon and -Rome Fiumicino routes. LTU will launch twice weekly A330-200 service from Dusseldorf to Las Vegas on May 10, it will however not resume its seasonal Orlando services next summer.

GB Airways (GT, London Gatwick) has announced new routes for next summer season: London Gatwick-Kerkyra: 2x weekly A320-200 service starting on May 4 London Gatwick-Mykonos: 2x weekly A320-200 service starting on May 3 London Heathrow-Faro: daily A320-200 service starting on May 1 The British Airways (BA/London Heathrow) franchisee is expected to launch new routes from its original base in Gibraltar to destinations in Spain later this or early next year. airBaltic (BT, Riga) has launched weekly B737-500 services from Riga to both Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh as well as three weekly Fokker 50 flights between Riga and Gothenburg Landvetter. It has dropped its Riga-Warsaw, Vilnius-Budapest and Vilnius-Warsaw routes instead. Air Baltic is reportedly considering replacing some of its B737-500s by B737-300s or B737-400s next year.

Air France (AF, Paris CDG) has retired its last B747-300 and ordered an additional A319-100LR. It has already given up its Bordeaux-Dublin and Nantes-London Gatwick routes and will drop its Paris CDG-Eindhoven route on December 23. Air France will also cease services between Paris Orly and Metz/Nancy on June 15, 2007 when the new high speed railway line linking Paris with the East of France will open. Air France, KLM (KL/Amsterdam) and China Southern Airlines (CZ/Guangzhou) are reportedly considering setting up cargo joint venture in China.
