Qantas' pilots approve Project Sunrise terms

Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) has announced that its pilots voted to approve the necessary changes to their employment terms which would permit the operation of ultra-long-haul flights dubbed Project Sunrise.

Out of 1,400 pilots who took part in the union ballot, 85% voted in favour of the changes. The Australian airline said earlier that while securing the agreement of the pilots was crucial, it would be prepared to sidestep unions if required.

South Korean regulator lifts sanctions on Jin Air

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) cited improved corporate governance at Jin Air (LJ, Jeju) for lifting a ban on the LCC offering new routes, it said in a statement on March 31. It has also allowed the carrier to register new aircraft and provide unscheduled flights.

However, the move is unlikely to give any immediate relief to Jin Air, which has already suspended all of its international routes amid the coronavirus crisis.

US carrier executives are expected to meet with the Department of Transportation (DOT) to discuss a possible consolidation of routes in order to cut losses across the sector, CNBC has reported.

United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) has opted to borrow the full amount under a USD500 million one-year secured-term loan it arranged on March 20 with the Goldman Sachs investment bank.
