Gulf Air (GF, Bahrain Int'l) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi Int'l) wherein the two Gulf-based carriers have pledged to enhance their commercial and operational ties.

Announced during the 2018 Bahrain International Airshow, the wide-ranging MOU has scope for the introduction of joint codeshare operations between Abu Dhabi Int'l and Bahrain Int'l, as well as on the global flight networks beyond the two carriers’ GCC hubs.

Jet Airways to cut unprofitable routes, consolidate network

Jet Airways (9W, Mumbai Int'l) has announced it would undertake a "comprehensive review" of its network in order to trim unprofitable routes and improve the financial results.

"The strategy includes concentration of capacity, enhancing frequency, density and hub connectivity. The measures will include rationalisation of operations on select, uneconomic routes and the redeployment of these assets to more productive and economically efficient international as well as domestic sectors," the Indian carrier said in a statement....

Go2Sky (6G, Bratislava) has announced it has formally ended B737 Classic operations following the sale of its last remaining B737-400, OM-GTB (msn 28882), to Air Vega Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian lessor has already placed the 22-year-old twinjet with Cargo Air (CGF, Sofia) which is using it to run ACMI passenger flights before being converted into a freighter.

Avianca Holdings is in talks with its respective regional partners over the proposed divestiture of select Central American carriers.

SaudiGulf Airlines orders 10+10 A320neo Family jets

SaudiGulf Airlines (6S, Dammam) has signed a firm order agreement with Airbus for up to twenty A320neo Family jets.

Announced during the 2018 Bahrain International Airshow, the carrier said in a statement the order entails ten firm and ten optioned aircraft which are a mix of both A320neo and A321neo. Deliveries will start during the second half of 2019 and will see between 6 and 8 jets deliver every year through 2022.

NZ's Air Auckland to launch scheduled ops in late 4Q18

Air Auckland (Ardmore) is set to launch its maiden scheduled routes from Ardmore near Auckland to Whitianga and Great Barrier Island on December 3, 2019, The Informer has reported.

Flights will operate daily onboard Cessna (single piston) 172 and Piper (twin piston) PA-23 Aztec aircraft.

IAG International Airlines Group has reportedly been talking with the Spanish authorities for a few weeks already to ensure that the holding retains its EU-based status after the United Kingdom leaves the bloc in March 2019, El Pais has reported.

China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou) has announced it will leave Skyteam next year as it pursues an independent development strategy. The carrier joined the alliance back in November 2007.

In a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, China Southern said that in light of its development strategy and to better align with increased global cooperation throughout the aviation industry, its board of directors had decided against renewing its membership of Skyteam effective January 1, 2019.


Swiss to lease more E190s from Helvetic instead of Q400s

Swiss (LX, Zurich) will wet-lease up to eight E190-E2s "or similar equipment" from fellow Swiss carrier Helvetic Airways (2L, Zurich) in Summer 2019, the airline said in a statement. It will thus double the capacity permanently wet-leased from Helvetic and replace the three Dash 8-400s it currently wet-leases from Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna).

Vietnam Airlines adds first A321neo

Vietnam Airlines (VN, Hanoi) has taken delivery of its first A321neo following the handing over of VN-A618 (msn 8589) on Wednesday, November 13. The twinjet is the first of six on longterm lease from Aviation Capital Group and sourced from the lessor's Airbus order book.

Nguyen Thai Trung, the airline's Deputy General Director, said the aircraft would be deployed on domestic flights as well as services to Indochina and Southeast Asia.

Bonaire's EZAir adds first Beech 1900D

EZAir (EZR, Bonaire) has acquired its first Beech 1900D with PJ-EZA (msn UE-207) having been ferried to the Caribbean from the United States earlier this month.

The 22-year-old turboprop will be joined by a second of the type - PJ-EZY (msn UE-209) - at month-end. Together, they will be used to run scheduled flights from Curacao to Bonaire and Aruba.

Until now, EZAir had operated two BN-2 Islanders on regional charter flights.

Twin Jet (T7, Marseilles) has announced it will open a base at Lille in April 2019 following HOP!'s announcement that it will withdraw from the airfield.

In a statement, the French regional carrier said it would deploy one of its twelve Beech 1900Ds to Lille to run weekday-only shuttle flights to Strasbourg and will also open up a new route to Clermont-Ferrand.
