PEOPLExpress (Newport News) has indefinitely deferred plans to resume scheduled operations on October 16. In a statement, the LCC said the delay was as a result of its decision to pursue US Part 380 certification (Indirect Aircraft Carrier).

"In order to ensure that we always have enough planes and crews, we are obtaining approval to operate as an Indirect Aircraft Carrier (known as Part 380). This will allow us to obtain planes from a number of providers if necessary for service stability," a statement read. "We met with the U.S. Department of Transportation this week and we are in the process of providing them with information they requested."

A lack of available equipment, brought on when one of its two leased B737s was damaged by a vendor truck while the other required an engine change, forced the Vision Airlines (United States of America)-affiliated carrier to suspend flights late last month.

"We currently have a tentative agreement with an additional aircraft provider, which will enable us to enhance our platform, including the addition of a third aircraft as a spare. This will alleviate the service issues we have experienced."
