Silk Way West Airlines (7L, Baku Heydar Aliev International) has placed an order for five B777-200Fs from Boeing with deliveries scheduled between 2023 and 2027.
"This deal is an incremental part of our fleet renewal and our commitment to meet our customers' expectations. I am confident that the acquisition of new freighters will further strengthen our leading position on the global air freight market for the next 15 to 20 years," Silk Way Group President Zaur Akhundov said during the signing ceremony in Baku.
Silk Way Group uses Silk Way West Airlines to operate its Western-built aircraft which currently consists of five B747-400FSCDs and five B747-8Fs. Silk Way Airlines (ZP, Baku Heydar Aliev International) operates three Il-76TDs and two Il-76TD-90VDs.
Silk Way West Airlines will become the first operator of the Boeing twinjet dedicated freighters in the Caucasus. Privately-owned Silk Way Group is the only commercial airline operating large dedicated freighters in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani Air and Air Defence Force operates a single Il-76TD.
