Small family-owned cargo carrier Ryan Air Alaska (7S, Aniak) has joined forces with cargo specialist Saltchuk Aviation, which is bolstering its Alaska presence and plans to grow its widebody fleet and services, the company announced on social media.
"Saltchuk Aviation continues to grow and add to the array of services we can offer our customers. We're thrilled to welcome Ryan Air [Alaska] into our family of companies, and we're looking forward to the future!" the company stated.
The details of the deal were not disclosed. On inquiry, a spokesperson for Saltchuk Aviation could only confirm that Ryan Air Alaska joined "our family of companies in December 2022".
Saltchuk Aviation President and Chief Executive Officer Betsy Seaton told Cargo Facts at the recent International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT) Americas Conference in San Diego that the company would strengthen its support for its customer base and core markets after taking ownership of Ryan Air Alaska while growing its own medium-haul widebody fleet of B767-300Fs. According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module,...

Capacity constraints imposed 15 years ago on Aloha Air Cargo (KH, Honolulu) are delaying the air transport of intra-Hawaiian mail, causing the United States Postal Service (USPS) to resort to moving mail between islands by boat.
According to a regulatory filing, the Hawaii-based cargo specialist is the only air carrier using large jets to transport USPS mail between the Hawaii islands, but it says demand is exceeding its capacity. Aloha Air Cargo wants to add at least one additional aircraft to its fleet immediately but cannot add capacity because the US Department of Transportation (DOT) has restricted it to operating five aircraft.
The limitation was imposed in 2008 due to circumstances surrounding an expedited transfer of the scheduled cargo authority contained in Aloha Air Cargo's operating certificate as part of an asset sale while the company was in Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
At the time, parent Aloha Airlines (Honolulu), already in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, shut down its still-profitable air freight division after its primary lender decided to provide no further financing...

Northern Air Cargo (NC, Anchorage Ted Stevens) has taken delivery of its first B737-800(SF), which is also its first B737NG converted freighter, Cargo Facts has reported.
N3159G (msn 35119), a 15.3-year-old ex-Aeroméxico jet owned by Aero Capital Solutions, was converted at Miami International and then ferried for painting at Macon on August 5, 2022. It was subsequently positioned to Anchorage Ted Stevens on August 20 in Northern Air Cargo's livery but has yet to be deployed into service.
Northern Aviation Services said last year that it was planning to renew its fleet of B737 Classic freighters but did not provide any specific plans.
The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows that Northern Air Cargo operates one B737-300(F), three B737-400(F)s, one B737-400(SF), and four B767-300ER(BDSF)s. Sister carrier Aloha Air Cargo (KH, Honolulu) operates a further two B737-300(F)s and three B737-300(SF)s. The group has seven B767-300ER(BCF)s on order from Boeing (of which one has already been delivered but...

Saltchuk Aviation, the parent company of Aloha Air Cargo, Northern Air Cargo, and StratAir, has ordered three more B767-300ER(BCF)s from Boeing with an option for one more unit during the Farnborough Air Show.
"We continue to see long-term air cargo trends that support fleet growth in the markets served by our three air cargo brands, and are excited to expand our partnership with Boeing. Converting these B767-300ERs will bring highly-reliable capacity to our network, and backed by Boeing's OEM expertise, we expect these freighters to operate in our fleet for the next 15-20 years," President and Chief Executive Betsy Seaton said.
The jets will be placed with Northern Air Cargo starting from the third quarter of 2024, a company spokeswoman confirmed to ch-aviation.
The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows that Aloha Air Cargo currently operates two B737-300(F)s and three B737-300(SF)s. Northern Air Cargo operates one B737-300(F), three B737-400(F)s, one B737-400(SF), and four B767-300ER(BDSF)s. StratAir does not have its own aircraft and instead charters capacity from...
