British Airways (BA, London Heathrow) has announced it will replace one of its daily frequencies out of London Heathrow to Moscow Domodedovo with a new flight to Moscow Sheremetyevo, which it currently does not serve, effective October 28, 2018.

The new route will be operated with an A321 and will be a direct competition against Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo), which connects Sheremetyevo with Heathrow 35x weekly. According to the ch-aviation capacity module, BA currently operates to Domodedovo 19x weekly.

British Airways used to serve Sheremetyevo until 2003, prior to relocating to Domodedovo, Airline Route has reported. The carrier has a code-share agreement with Oneworld partner S7 Airlines (S7, Novosibirsk) covering flights through this gateway.

Out of the two airports, Sheremetyevo, which is used primarily by Aeroflot, served 39.6 million passengers in 2017. Domodedovo served 30.7 million passengers, while the third airport serving the Russian capital, Moscow Vnukovo, served 18.1 million.
