American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has announced plans to launch 2x daily service from its Dallas/Fort Worth hub to Del Rio International starting November 4. Using E140 regional jets operated by fully owned subsidiary Envoy Air (MQ, Dallas/Fort Worth), American will become the only scheduled operator for the community, according to the ch-aviation schedules module.

Del Rio has been left unserved since November 17, 2017 when virtual carrier Texas Sky (Victoria, TX) dropped its service on the route to Dallas/Fort Worth. The carries said at that time that despite "countless marketing tactics and cooperative funding" invested in the route since its launch in February 2017, it would not have been able to attract enough passengers. Texas Sky was using Jetstream 32 turboprops chartered from Contour Aviation (LF, Smyrna) on the route.

The Texan city had previously already been left unserved between 2013 and 2017 after United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) dropped its service from Houston Intercontinental back on April 8, 2013.
