JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) has announced that it will launch direct non-stop flights from New York JFK to Guayaquil in Ecuador on December 5, 2019, using its new A321-200neo aircraft.

"The introduction of the A321neo to our fleet opens up a world of new possibilities as we think about the future of our growing network, building out our focus cities, and offering new and unique nonstop routes to our customers," director route planning Andrea Lusso said.

The carrier will operate the route daily. It will be the longest route in jetBlue's network at 2,581 nautical miles great circle distance. The airline's longest current route is from Boston to San Francisco (2,350 nautical miles).

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, LATAM Airlines Ecuador (XL, Quito International) currently flies daily from Guayaquil to JFK using widebody B767-300(ER) aircraft. jetBlue itself serves the city daily from Fort Lauderdale International. It competes on the route with Spirit Airlines and TAME Ecuador. In terms of destinations in North and Central America, Guayaquil also sees scheduled flights to Panamá City Tocumen International (by Copa Airlines), Miami International (by American Airlines), and San Salvador International (by Avianca).

jetBlue Airways has eighty-five A321neo on order with Airbus.
