The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has stripped Jet Airways (JAI, Mumbai International) of its 18 daily slots at Pune, the Hindustan Times has reported.
"We have given the slots that were with the Jet Airways to other airlines like SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) and IndiGo Airlines (6E, Delhi International). These slots available for the Jet Airways flights were not being used. A deadline was given to the airline to resume their schedule. Since they could not resume the aircraft operations, these slots have been given to other airlines," airport director Ajay Kumar said.
The airline was utilising only three out of its 18 daily slots as of early April and since then has cancelled its last remaining service from Pune to Indore. The AAI said that if Jet Airways wants to relaunch its flights from Pune after restructuring, it will have to re-apply for slots at the airport.
The national Indian airport operator has previously sought to redistribute the crisis-hit carrier's slots at larger airports such as Mumbai International and Delhi International.
IndiGo and SpiceJet, which scooped the ex-Jet Airways slots, are already the two largest operators at Pune with a 47.4% and a 16.7% market share by capacity, respectively.
