Air Astana (KC, Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev) will transfer all its Moscow operations from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Moscow Domodedovo with effect from October 27, 2019, the Kazakh carrier said in a press release.

The change of airport in Russia's capital is linked to the recent signing of a code-share agreement with S7 Airlines, which operates out of Domodedovo.

According to the ch-aviation schedules module, Air Astana currently operates to Moscow from Almaty International (11x weekly) and Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev (13x weekly) using A320 and A321 narrowbodies. Individual flights are also operated with widebody B767-300(ER) equipment.

Sheremetyevo is heavily dominated by Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo), which has a 78.3% market share by capacity at the airport. No foreign carrier exceeds a 1% share by capacity threshold. In contrast, Domodedovo is much more diversified with the largest carrier, S7 Airlines, holding a 47.3% market share by capacity. Among foreign airlines, Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International), Emirates (EK, Dubai International), Belavia (B2, Minsk National), Air Moldova (MLD, Chisinau International), and Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) all exceed 1% market share by capacity at the airport.
