Corendon Airlines Europe (XR, Malta International) has announced that it will open a base in Hannover from next May, joining its existing German bases in Cologne/Bonn, Münster/Osnabrück and Nuremberg, according to a report on Turkish news website Hurriyet.

With two aircraft to be based in the northern German city, the airline will introduce new flights to Irakleion, Rhodes International, Antalya, and Hurghada contributing to the 54 weekly flights at the airport. As a result, the airline expects to provide 450,000 seats in Hanover next year. To put that into perspective, in 2018, Corendon carried 750,000 passengers from the German market.

Yıldıray Karaer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Corendon Airlines said: “We aim to achieve better every year in the German market, [a market] that we entered in 2014. We continue to invest in the German market by increasing our seat capacity and diversity of destinations. We have planned a total of 3.5 million seats in the 2020 season for the German market, where we have further strengthened our operations by increasing our base number.”

The carrier currently has fleet of seven B737-800s, three of which - TC-COH (msn 35850), TC-TJU (msn 29681), and TC-TJS (msn 34252) - are wet-leased from its parent Corendon Airlines (XC, Antalya).

Hanover is presently served by 27 airlines, with the biggest three operators being Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) with 24% of weekly seats, Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) with 12% of capacity, and TUI fly (Germany) (X3, Hannover) controlling 10%.
