Starlux Airlines (JX, Taipei Taoyuan) is set to begin ticket sales after it completed its certification and licensing drive last week.

"After an application process of more than two years, Starlux Airlines has successfully completed the review process, and has officially obtained its 'Civil Air Transport Industry Permit (AOC)' and 'Route Authorities' which were issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of the Ministry of Transport," the nascent Taiwanese carrier said in a statement on December 12. "The planned first three routes will be Macau International, Penang (Malaysia), and Da Nang (Vietnam)."

Starlux is expecting three A321-200neo to deliver by the time its inaugural commercial flights take place on January 23, 2020.

The start-up is the brainchild of Chang Kuo-wei, a former chairman of EVA Air (BR, Taipei Taoyuan) who was ousted from the carrier during a family power struggle that ensued following the death of his father, Chang Jung-fa, in January 2016. Chang was the patriarch of EVA Air's parent firm, Evergreen Group.
