Frontier Airlines (F9, Denver International) will open a base at Miami International in March 2020 which, within the first three months of operation, will see more than 100 flight attendants and 30 pilots based at the Florida airport.
The ultra-low-cost carrier's (ULCC) base statement was part of a 25-route expansion announcement by the airline, including its return to Central America with flights to Guatemala City and San Salvador International and service to two new destinations in the Dominican Republic: Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo Las Américas.
Frontier already has bases at Chicago O'Hare, Denver International, Orlando International, Philadelphia International and Trenton, NJ airports. It also has a significant operation in Miami, which it began flying to in 2014, and now serves 14 domestic destinations as well as San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin in Puerto Rico.
The base will see Frontier add eight new destinations to its Miami network next summer:
- from April 23, 2x weekly to Austin-Bergstrom International;
- from April 23, 3x weekly to Baltimore International;
- from June 18, 2x weekly to San Salvador;
- from May 10, weekly to Guatemala City;
- from May 10, 3x weekly to Islip;
- from April 23, 3x weekly to Ontario International;
- from April 23, 3x weekly to Santo Domingo Las Américas, and;
- from April 23, 2x weekly to Trenton.
“Our newest crew base in Miami highlights our commitment to delivering low fares and convenient air travel in South Florida,” Barry Biffle, Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Airlines, said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing to serve the community from the convenience of their hometown airport.”
Frontier flies to nine airports in Florida - namely West Palm Beach International, Fort Lauderdale International, Tampa International, Fort Myers Southwest Florida, Jacksonville International, FL, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional and Sarasota/Bradenton.
