Turkish Airlines, American Airlines, and Aeroméxico have reached individual agreements with Boeing over compensation relating to the grounding of B737 MAX aircraft.

Turkish Airlines said in a stock market filing that it "came to an agreement concerning compensation for certain losses caused by the grounded and undelivered Boeing 737 MAX aircraft". It has has eleven B737-8s and one B737-9s on the ground and a further fifty-four -8s and nine -9s on order.

For its part, American Airlines said in its own filing that it will allocate proceeds from the payout to its staff.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are proud to take the step of including this compensation in our 2019 profit-sharing program, even though the compensation will be received over several years," Chairman and Chief Executive Doug Parker said.

It said that it will accrue an additional USD30 million to its profit-sharing programme in March 2020, without disclosing the total amount of compensation it is due to receive.

American Airlines has twenty-four grounded B737 MAX 8s and a further 76 on firm order from the manufacturer.

"American will continue its conversations with Boeing regarding compensation for damages related to the MAX grounding beyond 2019, and any future compensation will be similarly shared with its team members," the airline added.

Finally, Aeroméxico said that "it has recently reached a confidential compensation agreement with The Boeing Company to mitigate Aeroméxico's costs arising from the temporary grounding of the airline's Boeing 737 MAX aircraft," without disclosing further details.

The Mexican flag carrier has six grounded MAX 8s and a further fifty-two MAX 8s and two MAX 9s on order from Boeing.
