US regional airline Contour Airlines (LF, Tupelo) will continue to serve Oakland from Crescent City after the Border Coast Regional Airport Authority (BCRAA) turned down its proposal to change to Sacramento Int'l to take better advantage of its new interline agreement with American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth), local media reports.
The Californian joint powers authority reached its decision after hearing from Contour Airlines Chief Executive Officer Matt Chaifetz, who said the Tennessee-based carrier was not pushing for a change, reports Wild Rivers Outpost.
It also follows a special BCRAA board meeting on February 18, 2021, during which the matter was discussed. According to the agenda notes, Contour Airlines did not advocate either hub and was neutral on whether one should be chosen over the other. The airline had merely presented Sacramento as an alternative option given its interline agreement with American Airlines (AA).
The board discussed that AA currently does not serve Oakland and that there is no ability for Contour's passengers leaving Del Norte County Regional airport to connect...

Grupo Aeroméxico has asked the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to extend the deadline for filing its restructuring plan to June 25, 2021.
The current deadline falls on February 25, 2021. The airline said that while it has "accomplished a great deal so far" in its Chapter 11 restructuring, it still needed more time to complete negotiations with stakeholders and formulate a final restructuring plan. In particular, Aeroméxico said that it still had outstanding issues to address in terms of "rationalising its workforce" and renegotiating fleet strategy.
The Aeroméxico (AM, México City Int'l) parent said the talks had been further complicated by the prevailing uncertainty regarding the pandemic and its impact on market recovery.
"[Aeroméxico] presently only require[s] a portion of its aircraft to be available for current operations, which, in turn, makes, among other things, fleet planning and negotiating with counterparties based on aircraft usage extraordinarily difficult... [The airline] must plan for an untold number of potentialities, including those based on historic, unprecedented market conditions," the carrier...

Following enhanced measures announced by the Canadian government aimed at further curbing the spread of COVID-19, Air Transat has suspended its regular operations from January 29 to April 30, 2021.
From midnight on February 3, 2021, international flights arriving and departing in Canada will be funnelled through four gateways only: Montréal Trudeau, Toronto Pearson, Calgary, and Vancouver Int'l. This includes flights arriving from the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America, which were previously exempted from restrictions.
In addition, the Canadian government said passengers arriving in Canada would have to quarantine at their own cost for three nights in a Canadian government-approved hotel and take a COVID-19 molecular test on arrival at their own cost. Screening Officers will monitor travellers at their quarantine locations in 35 cities across the country, starting in Montréal and Toronto. Violating any quarantine instructions when entering Canada is an offence under the Quarantine Act and could lead to six months in prison and/or CAD750,000 (USD586,600) in fines.
Given these new measures and their impact...
