Merpati (Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) CEO Rudy Setyopurnomo has announced plans to buy up to 20 Dornier Seastar turboprop seaplanes that could be delivered from as early as 2013. The new generation seaplanes to be produced by Dornier will be able to carry 12 passengers and Merpati plans to use the aircraft to add new domestic destinations in Indonesia not currently reachable by air because of a lack of suitable airports.
