LAN Airlines (Santiago de Chile) has applied for traffic rights to be allowed to add a fourth daily service between its homebase at Santiago de Chile and Miami International operating on a daily basis via Rio de Janeiro International with B767-300ERs. It currently already operates two daily non-stop services on the route and six additional weekly direct flights on different multi-stop routings including stops at Caracas Simón Bolivar, Cancún, Guayaquil and Punta Cana. Sister carrier TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas) also operates a daily flight between Rio de Janeiro and Miami, currently also with B767-300ERs that will shortly be replaced by A330-200s from December 17.
