The French government's defence procurement agency (Direction générale de l'armement - DGA) has firmed an order with Saab (Sweden) for two GlobalEye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, based on the Global 6000 and Global 6500 platforms, plus options for two additional units. The deal, initially announced at the 2025 Paris Air Show in June, is valued at approximately SEK12.3 billion kronor (USD1.34 billion) and includes ground equipment, training, and support, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2032.
The new aircraft will replace France's current fleet of four AEW&C B707-300(E-3F)s operated by the French Air and Space Force (Armée de l'Air). The Boeing aircraft average 35.2 years in age and were modernised between 2014 and 2016.
