The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has taken delivery of the first MC-55A, a modified G550 configured for airborne intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare (ISREW) missions. The 2018-built aircraft, currently registered as N584GA (msn 5584), departed Greenville, TX, where L3Harris Technologies completed mission systems integration, for Edinburgh RAAF Base, following stops at Tucson Davis Monthan, Honolulu, Wake Island, and Guam Andersen. Pending reregistration under RAAF military markings, the MC-55A will be based at RAAF Base Edinburgh and has entered service with No. 10 Squadron.
The aircraft is the first of four MC-55As acquired by the Australian Department of Defence in 2019 under a USD1.6 billion programme. The type will complement other RAAF intelligence, surveillance, and electronic warfare assets, including thirteen P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and the Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton high-altitude, long-endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
