Iraqi Airways (IA, Baghdad) operated an Umrah charter flight from Mosul to Madinah on January 26, 2026, marking the first international departure from the former since its July 2025 reopening. While the first flight was a one-off charter, both airport and airline officials stated that plans are underway to secure regular international flights, although the civil aviation authority confirmed that the airport has not yet been certified for scheduled international operations.
The airport was non-operational for more than a decade following its seizure and destruction by Islamic State militants in 2014. Iraqi Airways relaunched scheduled domestic flights from Mosul in November 2025, operating a 2x weekly route to Baghdad.
