Jat Airways (Belgrade Nikola Tesla) has offered Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) a 49% minority stake in the financially struggling Serbian national carrier. To make the investment attractive for Etihad, the Serbian government would write off 170 million EUR of debts from Jat, pay for the leasing rates of six new A320 family aircraft and a new cargo terminal in Belgrade. Etihad already holds minority stakes in Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International), Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel), Air Seychelles (HM, Mahé) and Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International).
