British Airways (BA, London Heathrow) has had its options for 18 B787-8s converted into firm orders after parent company, the International Airlines Group (IAG), reached an agreement with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) regarding commercial terms and delivery orders. The Trent 1000-powered Dreamliners, part of an original order placed in 2007 for 24 firm 787s and 18 options, will replace some of British Airways’ ageing B747-400s between 2017 and 2021. Meanwhile, fellow IAG carrier, Iberia (IB, Madrid Barajas), has also reached an agreement with Boeing, albeit to “secure commercial terms and delivery slots for a possible 787 order." Firm orders will only be made once the Spanish carrier has been restructured and rendered profitable however. Both order agreements are still subject to approval by IAG shareholders.
