Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma International) has announced that, beginning March 3, 2014, it will switch select flights on two of its intra-Alaskan routes, Anchorage Ted Stevens to Fairbanks International and Kodiak, to its regional subsidiary, Horizon Air (QX, Seattle Tacoma International). Alaska will operate eight flights each day with an Horizon DHC-8-400, plus one B737-400(M) resulting in an increase from seven to nine daily flights between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Kodiak will see one of its two daily flights operated by Horizon until April 30, 2014. Fairbanks' press reports claim the switch to Horizon will allow Alaskan's freed-up 737s to be used on newly announced non-stop routes between Anchorage and Las Vegas Harry Reid and Phoenix Sky Harbor.
