China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou) has sent a delegation to the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, for talks with government regarding a possible acquisition of both Adria Airways (Ljubljana) and Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport. Reports from Slovenia claim that the Chinese carrier is "interested in launching charter flights to Ljubljana" before "eventually turning them into regular services." For its part, Ljubljana Airport hopes to become a transit point to south-east Europe. Slovenia has listed the national carrier and various airports among fifteen state-run institutions that are due to be sold off as a means of reducing soaring public debt. Parties, who thus far are understood to include ten firms, have until September to submit their bids for a 74.8% stake in the carrier. In March, it was announced that German investment firm, Intro Aviation, was close to purchasing a majority stake in Adria. Since then, however, nothing has materialised.
