Air Nostrum (YW, Valencia Manises) will reportedly lease six CRJ200ERs to Sol Líneas Aéreas (Rosario Islas Malvinas) with effect from October, reports out of Argentina claim. The Argentine airline intends to use the jets to supplement its current all-prop fleet of three Saab 340As and two Saab 340Bs on flights from Rosario Islas Malvinas to Foz do Iguaçu International and San Carlos de Bariloche. The contract will reportedly also include the provision of tertiary services including crew training. The deal, still being negotiated over, is part of the Spanish carrier's revitalization plan as outlined by CEO, Carlos Bartomeu, in November last year. With the Spanish domestic market now depressed thanks to the slowdown in the Eurozone economy, Air Nostrum has been forced to diversify its business strategy which, while incorporating austerity-driven wage cuts, has also placed emphasis on securing lease contracts for its older, less economical jets in emerging economies thus far said to include Panama, Uruguay, Ghana, Morocco, and now Argentina. Air Nostrum's CRJ200s are also currently leased to Binter Canarias (NT, Gran Canaria) and Cimber (Sønderborg) with previous wet-lease contracts with Widerøe (WF, Bodø) now ended. Mr Bartomeu said the Latin American market has held particular promise as "various" carriers there have been eager to replicate Air Nostrum's success.
