JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) is not interested in any mergers or acquisitions, CEO Dave Barger has said, adding that "the airline values its independence too much". Mr Barger's comments come as New York-based carrier was mentioned as a possible takeover candidate should the merger of US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor) and American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) fail. Regarding a complaint by the US Department of Justice that a combined US/AA carrier would control 69% of all slots at Washington National, Mr Barger said US Airways, which currently holds 55% of landing and take off slots at the airport, should maintain the status-quo. "US Airways is already in the No. 1 position at our nation's capital," Barger told the Reuters summit. "We actually think that they should remain at the level that they're at."
