Fastjet Nigeria (Lagos) could see competition from a planned new Low Cost Carrier, set to launch in the country in July 2014. Onboard the project is the former managing director of Arik Air (W3, Lagos) and Camair-Co (QC, Douala), Alex Van Elk, who says the carrier is a joint partnership between Nigerian and French investors. Quoted by Nigeria's Nation, Mr Van Elk said the carrier, as yet unnamed, would aim to launch before July 2014 and focus on the country's domestic market initially before branching out further afield into the region. The LCC is planning to lease a brand new A319-100 for initial operations due "in the next few months". He also disclosed that the airline was consulting with "mega-carriers" in Europe, Asia and Africa for interlining agreements, adding that the responses "had been very encouraging."
