Jetstar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Airport) has taken delivery of its first B787-8 VH-VKA (msn 36227) on October 7. The aircraft has departed Everett bound for Melbourne Airport on the same day. Jetstar has a total of 14 B787-8s on order that will gradually replace the low-cost carrier's fleet of 10 A330-200s. The A330s themselves will replace B767-300(ER)s at parent Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) as they are moved back from Jetstar to Qantas. Jetstar plans to initially use its first B787-8 aircraft on domestic flights from Melbourne to Gold Coast Coolangatta and Cairns from November 13 to December 16 before being deployed on its first international services to Denpasar.
