China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou) along with China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao) and Sichuan Airlines (3U, Chengdu Shuangliu) could be approached over the possibility of starting direct fllights between China and Ayers Rock. Lamenting the decline of the Ayers Rock Resort, Australia's Indigenous Affairs minister, Nigel Scullion, said the property should not be allowed to fail adding that the launch of direct flights from China would likely prove a turning point for the struggling resort. “If it can happen in Cairns [direct flights], it can happen here,” he told The Australian. “It’s about a will. There are no impediments. Customs and Quarantine have arranged to come here before. We need to move heaven and earth to advance this. We will do what it takes.” At present Ayers Rocck is connected to Sydney Kingsford Smith, Brisbane International and Cairns by Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith), Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International) and Jetstar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Airport).
