Jetstar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Airport) will continue operating domestic services to and from Melbourne Avalon until April 2015 after reaching an in-principle agreement with the Victorian Government and the operators of Avalon airport. Jetstar Group Chief Executive Officer Jayne Hrdlicka said the airline had worked with the Victorian Government and Avalon Airport to reach an agreement that will be finalised in the coming days. “The extension of services until April 2015 provides an opportunity for the community and its leaders to get behind Jetstar’s operations at Avalon Airport,” she said. Threatened with the prospect of a pull-out, the Victorian government had offered the airline a multi-million dollar subsidy in return for its continued presence at the airport where it serves Sydney Kingsford Smith and Brisbane International.
