Rostock Airways (Rostock) has abandoned scheduled operations citing a lack of longterm predictability at Rostock airport. The Ostsee Zeitung newspaper says Rostock airport's declining passenger throughput has threatened its Mecklenburg-Vorpommern annual state subsidies for 2014. As a result, Rostock airways has been forced to reconsider its future at the airport, a former East German Air Force Base. The virtual carrier had planned to offer Copenhagen Kastrup, Frankfurt International and Munich flights from early 2014 after having briefly offered charter flights between Rostock and Palma de Mallorca last summer in cooperation with Air Nostrum (YW, Valencia Manises).
