Greenland Express (Aalborg) has merged with Icelandic operator, Air Arctic (2012) (Reykjavik Domestic), through an equity swap agreement. In its announcement, the Greenlandic operator said it had acquired a 33% stake in both Air Arctic and its associated firms while the Icelandic carrier had in turn taken a 40% stake in Greenland Express. "Our plan has now changed to also cover domestic routes in Greenland, cargo and other operations to and from Greenland and Iceland. As well as we are going for our own AOC in the coming year. We are also going for more and bigger aircraft already in the new year," said Gert Brask, CEO of Greenland Express in a statement. The tie up is expected to inject fresh capital from both Icelandic and American investors. As earlier reported, Greenland Express is to launch flights in Spring 2014 using a wet-leased Denim Air ACMI (Amsterdam Schiphol) E190 aircraft. The Dutch CAA recently amended Denim Air's AOC to allow for Arctic operations connecting Iceland, Greenland and Denmark as well as other points in the region. Greenland Express says its goal for 2014 is to boost its fleet with ATR72 aircraft as well as jets like the Boeing 737 for use on ACMI and charter services to Europe.
