Malawi Airlines (3W, Lilongwe International) launched operations on January 31 with flights between Lilongwe International and Blantyre. Despite previous assurances that both a B737-800 and a DHC-8-400, sourced from Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International), would be in the country prior to the inaugural flight, only the Dash 8-400, ET-AQB (cn 4419), is understood to be in the Central African country as of this writing. Malawi's Nyasa Times says the B737 is due once local authorities complete the type's certification and registration.
