Rex - Regional Express (ZL, Wagga Wagga) will begin offering a 3x daily flights from Armidale, a city in the Australian state of New South Wales, to Sydney Kingsford Smith beginning March 28, 2014. In a statement, the airline said Armidale was chosen over Moree after the latter's market size proved too small and lacked community support.
“We thank all 6 councils who applied for their keen interest in Rex's services and we will keep all submissions in mind should future opportunities open up. The decision to award the service to Armidale followed thorough examination of the Armidale market and the results of a comprehensive passenger survey in late 2013 conducted by Armidale Dumaresq Council. Key factors in the decision included the current passenger numbers, growth potential of the route, and very importantly the local community support,” said Rex’s Network Strategy & Sales Manager, Mr Warrick Lodge.
Rex will provide a total of 36 weekly flights between Armidale and Sydney bringing an annual 60,000 seats to the route.
