Caribbean Airlines (BW, Port of Spain) could be finalizing the phasing out of the Air Jamaica (Kingston Norman Manley) brand as mandated by the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA) in 2012. In its report, World Airline News notes that one of Air Jamaica's five B737-800s, 9Y-JMA (msn 30645), has now been repainted into full Caribbean Airlines colours on its return to service on February 23.
The site speculates that the aircraft's rebranding "may be a new signal that Caribbean has decided to move ahead with the mandated 'one-brand' ruling eliminating the iconic Air Jamaica brand and name."
After Air Jamaica became a fully fledged division of Caribbean Airlines in 2010, the latter sought to adopt a “two brands, one airline” marketing strategy to keep alive the Air Jamaica brand, especially for the Jamaican market.
