Groznyavia (Grozny) has outlined plans to develop the Crimean city of Simferopol into a regional hub. Russian news sources state the Chechen carrier will base two of its four Yak-42s out of the airport with initial hub services to include flights to Rostov Platov beginning October 31, along with Kursk, Voronezh Chertovitskoye, Belgorod, Volgograd, Kirov, Grozny, and Kazan International.

It is to be recalled that the airline is also considering acquiring A319-100s for use in expanding its fleet though this is contingent on adequate financing being found.

The Chechen carrier is the first Russian airline to establish a hub in Simferopol since Russia's internationally-condemned annexation of the peninsula in March. In a bid to improve the region's economy, Moscow is mulling the introduction of subsidies to airlines serving the Crimea.
