JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) will terminate five routes from June onwards in a bid to free up additional aircraft for its new Washington National services. The US LCC said in a statement that effective June 16, the following routes will be axed: West Palm Beach International to San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin; San Francisco to Austin-Bergstrom International; and Oakland International to Washington Dulles. Flights between Long Beach and Washington Dulles will follow on September 2 while the seasonal Buffalo Niagara International to Fort Myers Southwest Florida will not resume in November as in the past.

"Closing routes is not an easy decision, but the aircraft made available in this case will allow us to take advantage of growth opportunities at DCA made possible by our recent slot acquisition," JetBlue said in its statement.

Effective June 19, jetBlue will use its Washington National slots, awarded it by the US Department of Justice as part of recent American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth)-US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor) divestiture proceedings, to launch flights to Charleston International, Hartford Bradley and Nassau International.
