Indonesia AirAsia X (IDX, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) secured its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from Indonesia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Transport ministry on September 4. In a statement to the Malaysian stock exchange, parent AirAsia X (D7, Kuala Lumpur International) said the start-up will now start applying for operating permits and slots to fly international routes.
"Granting of the new AOC, following the successful set-up of Thai AirAsia X (XJ, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi), is in line with AirAsia X’s strategy of offering a comprehensive network with seamless connectivity. IAAX will also be the first long-haul low-cost carrier in Indonesia," the statement said.
The start-up will operate a fleet of A330-300s in a two-class configuration.
Having secured its Air Service License in January, the joint-venture between Air Asia X and Indonesia's PT Kirana Anugerah Perkasa (PTKAP) will draw on feeder traffic supplied by Indonesia AirAsia (QZ, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta).
