Interjet (Toluca) and other carriers serving the Baja California Sur towns of San José Cabo and La Paz International have been forced to suspend their services there indefinitely as a result of the recent passing of Hurricane Odile, a Category 3 storm.

In a statement, the airports' operator, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, S.A.B. de C.V. (PAC) said that operations had been suspended as of September 14 owing to the significant damage both airfields sustained.

“Our main concern is the safety of our passengers and employees. As such, we are fully cooperating with the state and federal authorities to ensure that are precautions are taken, " Fernando Bosque, GAP's Chief Executive Officer, said. "Flights have been suspended since yesterday afternoon; at this time we are not fully aware of the extent of the damage to the operations and will keep the community posted as information becomes available. Our goal is to resume normal operations as soon as is possible.”

Initial reports have claimed the airports could reopen as soon as next week but for the meantime, though closed to commercial traffic, they are currently being used for evacuations and relief-supply flights.
