Zimbabwe flyafrica (Harare International) will enter the Zimbabwean domestic market with effect from December of this year. In a statement to ch-aviation, the budget carrier said 4x weekly Harare International to Victoria Falls flights will commence December 1. Historically, the market has remained the preserve of Air Zimbabwe (UM, Harare International) which the Zimbabwean government has been keen to protect.

flyafrica will also open up daily flights from Bulawayo to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo beginning March 1, 2015.

“Our route expansion is in line with the delivery of our second B737-500 into the Zimbabwe flyafrica fleet,” Professor Chaka Karase, CEO of Zimbabwe flyafrica, said. “Our next expansion will be into our neighbouring countries of Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania and Malawi. We are committed to developing more routes during 2015 and enabling more passengers to travel around Africa without having to use the traditional path of connecting through Johannesburg.”

The first quarter of 2015 will also see the launch of Namibia flyafrica (Windhoek International) which will roll out flights to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo on February 2 and flights to Cape Town International on March 2, 2015. The Namibian operation has also been given the greenlight to operate a daily Johannesburg O.R. Tambo to Lusaka flight effective February 16.

“We are excited by what Namibia has achieved in such a short time. We are also working on the roll-out of the 3rd airline in the flyafrica.com family and are sure that 2014 will be a very exciting year for all travellers in Africa tired of high fares and unjust charges,” Adrian Hamilton-Manns, Group CEO of flyafrica.com, said.
