Frontier Airlines (F9, Denver International) has announced plans to outsource up to 1,300 jobs in Denver and Milwaukee in a bid to streamline its staff cost base. US media reports state that 1'160 jobs at Denver International and 240 at Milwaukee General Mitchell will be affected.

The Denver Post reports jobs in the customer service, ramp services, and catering sectors will be outsourced to Swissport USA, already a major ground handling services provider in Denver.

"These changes continue to be part of a comprehensive companywide strategy that is crucial for Frontier to successfully compete in the marketplace as an ultra-low cost carrier allowing it to offer customers much needed relief from high airfares nationwide. Low fares are only achieved through low costs," the carrier said in a press release.

On the back of rising airport landing fees, Frontier last year announced it would reduce its daily operations out of Denver from the current 85 daily rotations to 70 with the resulting freed up aircraft to be allocated to other more profitable markets.
