StarFlyer (7G, Kitakyushu) is considering launching midnight international charters to regional Asian destinations as part of its medium-term business strategy dubbed 'Pursuit of Star Flyer-ness 2020'.

Quoting local Japanese media sources, the ZipanguFlyer blog states the carrier is considering the move after a wave of hefty cutbacks helped StarFlyer garner a JPY431 million (USD3.61 million) net profit for its 2014/15 financial year which ended in March.

Aside from concentrating on boosting profitability on its core market of Tokyo Haneda to Fukuoka, Kitakyushu, Osaka Kansai, and Ube flights, StarFlyer says it may offer international charters from Kitakyushu, Osaka Kansai, and Nagoya Chubu to various unspecified neighbouring Asian countries. It may also apply for Haneda's off-peak 23h00L-06h00L slots made available for international charter flights by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLITT) in January of this year.

In terms of fleet operations, the airline is also considering increasing the density of its fleet of nine A320-200s by 16 seats to 166-seaters to help improve capacity utilization.

Overall, StarFlyer anticipates an operating profit of JPY380 million (USD3.18 million) for its current 2016/16 financial year.
