Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International) will transfer three B737-800s to its Tigerair Australia (Melbourne Airport) subsidiary ahead of the latter's international debut early next year. The move is part of what the Virgin Australia Group says are plans to 'optimise its international network to deliver improved fleet utilisation and meet customer demand on key trans-Tasman and short-haul international routes.'

As such, regulatory requirements aside, Tigerair Australia will use the three all-economy B737s to offer scheduled services to Denpasar, Indonesia from Adelaide International (5x weekly); Melbourne Airport (daily); and Perth International (daily) effective March 23, 2016. Virgin Australia will itself withdraw from each of the three routes on March 22, 2016.

Virgin Australia acquired outright control of Tigerair Australia late last year following Tigerair's decision to withdraw and focus on its own operations. The LCC currently operates thirteen A320-200s on flights connecting Sydney Kingsford Smith, Adelaide, Brisbane International, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast Coolangatta, Hobart International, Mackay, Melbourne, Perth, and Proserpine.
