Interjet (Toluca) will commence A321-200 operations later this year the airline's vice president - safety, Benjamín Mejía, has said.

Speaking to Mexico's El Financiero newspaper on the sidelines of the XIV National Tourism Forum, Mejía said a total of six A321s would arrive over the course of this year and the next.

"We will be replacing the Superjet and A320 aircraft on some routes with the larger A321 aircraft, three of which will arrive in 2016 and three in 2017," he said.

The LCC currently operates forty-two A320-200s and nineteen SSJ 100/95s on flights throughout Mexico as well as to the United States, Colombia, Cuba, and Costa Rica. The majority of its weekly capacity is allocated to its flights from México City International to Monterrey Mariano Escobedo, Guadalajara, Cancún, Villahermosa and Merida M. Crescencio Rejon.
