Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International) has once more suspended all flights to Vanuatu following the discovery of potholes on runway 11/29 at Port Vila this week.

The carrier, along with Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) and Air New Zealand (NZ, Auckland International), suspended services to the Pacific island in January this year citing the track's poor condition. Emergency repair works were undertaken leading to Virgin's return in May.

Earlier this week, however, a Virgin inspection crew discovered craters in the runway's surface leading to the decision to suspend all services until further notice.

Air New Zealand has refused to resume flights to Vanuatu until a full overhaul of Port Vila's runway surface and foundation has been completed, inspected, and certified.
